Week 3!!! COOS BAY, WHAT DO YAH SAY?!
Hello beautiful people!
I have officially made it to OREGON! I finished my final week at the MTC. I absolutely loved the MTC! I was so blessed to have become best friends with my beautiful companion! I miss her so much already! My district was seriously the best! Saying goodbye to everyone was so sad but I know that they are all going to be great missionaries! District 4J will always have a special place in my heart. We woke up at 4am to get to the airport. I was able to travel with 10 other Eugene missionaries! It was so fun to travel with a group of missionaries who were so pumped to get out to the field.
COOS BAY WHAT DO YAH SAY?!
I am in Coos Bay!!! SAY WHAT?! It's one out of two areas on the coast that sisters are able to go to. To say I'm lucky is an understatement. I am so happy to be here on the coast! Despite all the homeless people, drugs, cat ladies, free spirits and rain it is absolutely beautiful here! This first week of being in the field has been so busy and chaotic but I wouldn't want it any other way! I was able to be here in this area at the perfect time. There are so many amazing people who want God in their life. There are some very free and wild spirits here. Lots of people definitely live the hippie life out here on the coast. We helped an older lady named Jewell move. She kept cussing and then praising Jesus over and over again. She wouldn't stop kissing the picture of Jesus that we gave her and saying he is right in her soul. She then started telling us that her real name isn't Jewell Starsinger. She said she changed it to that because "its just more fun this way!" She is definitely one of the most free spirited people I have ever met. We asked if we could pray with her. She said yes with so much excitement. It seemed like one of the most powerful prayers. She cried after the prayer and couldn't stop saying how thankful she was for good people who pray and love Jesus. I hope we are able able open her heart and teach her soon.
I was blessed with the opportunity to go a place called College Park Community. We spent a few hours there serving breakfast to the homeless. Greg is the guy who runs the show; he is a preacher for another church. He LOVES us missionaries! For those of you who don't know I have a serious sugar problem...mainly just chocolate. Greg has a room full of chocolate...no joke a room. He said that's how he bribes the kids in their church to answer questions. He then brought us 20lbs of chocolate for our service...I won't tell you how much is left....He's an awesome guy and so are all the other beautiful people I got to meet there! We get to go every Saturday and I am so grateful!
In my short time of being here I have been able to meet a sweet lady named Sharon. She has one of the most beautiful souls. She calls me "her sweet girl". She never stops talking about how much she loves God and how she's never felt closer to him. She was able to be baptized yesterday and I was able to be a witness for her! A few things went south but overall it was so amazing! She told me before her baptism that she was scared of the water...sadly we had to redo the baptismal performance 3 times because she kept getting scared that the elder was going to drop her. She would get about half under and then would fight going under. I felt so bad and after the second fail she started crying. Luckily we were able to say a prayer and the third time was a charm! Sharon has an amazing testimony and I can not wait to see her progress more and more on the covenant path. She is a very special daughter of God!
Lets be honest 75% of the people on this email list don't actually really it...they just look at the pictures and call it good. I don't blame them...But if you have made it this far here is my little spiritual message for the week! This week I have not been able to stop thinking about miracles. We have miracles in our lives EVERY SINGLE DAY. I hate to admit it but some days I wonder if God is truly listening to me. I want him to show me that he is by giving me a big miracle. Well that's not always how it works. There are miracles in YOUR life everyday you just have to look for them. Think about that for a minute. Some may be big some may be small but the Savior is causing miracles for YOU. We might not always see His handprint but I promise you that if you have faith and act on your faith that you will see his finger prints EVERY SINGLE DAY. I promise you. Here is a little miracle that happened this week. I was feeling awfully homesick, anxious and alone my second and third day here in Oregon. I prayed so so hard one night to know that he could hear me. The next morning my companion and I were beginning our companionship study. We started with a song. She asked me what song I wanted. I said 302 thinking that this was "Families Can be Together Forever" well I was wrong. She began playing the song. I realized it wasn't the song I thought it was. I went along with it anyways. The song that played was "I Know My Father Lives". The words hit me hard and I couldn't sing them. I sat and listened and knew right then that He "lives and loves me too...the spirit tells me that I can". How beautiful is that! A small and simple miracle of it being a different song. This little miracle has changed the out look I have had. My days have become brighter and I have been happier. Each day this last week I have sat down every night and thought about 3 of His finger prints that I saw in my life that day. It has helped me see His miracles. I want to challenge all of you to seek out 3 of His finger prints each day. Have faith and act on your faith and YOU WILL SEE MIRACLES. And please please please go listen to the song "I Know My Savior Lives"!!!
I love you all with the most deep and sincere love! I miss you all and hope everything at home is going well! Happy Holidays you lovely people.
